This legend is framed from the early 30's until the 50's, when Nipe Bay was a shark breeding ground, especially in Punta de Salinas. Despite the abundance of them, fishermen noticed that there was one that stood out for its size and dexterity, baptizing it Don Pepe. Many Antilleans claim that it was approximately 5 meters in size.

The ferocity of the shark was becoming more and more latent. The almanac marked November 6, 1943, when a tragedy occurred in the bay, due to the collision of the boats Antonio and Eugenia, in Punta de Salinas. When the don made his sinister appearance, only desperate screams could be heard and a deep red could be seen staining the sea.

On another occasion, a four-engine plane plunged into the bay and the shark also took over the place. Some said it was the Aquatic King, others that it resembled the Bloody Shark in the movie, because of its ability and dexterity to devour everything in its path. The experienced seamen devised thousands of plans to catch him, but all of them were in vain.

Time went by and little by little Don Pepe was no longer seen. Nobody else heard from him, and it is precisely this uncertainty that makes him a legend. The truth is that in the bay, many years ago, the misfortunes brought by the sharks ended; but as a paradox, the charm of having the famous shark, sliding mythically through the bay, also disappeared.
